Debt that has no maturity date, so the issuer can repay it when they consider it (increasing the risk), and the holder receives an interest rate higher than the market “in compensation” for the uncertainty of not knowing when such payment will occur. It is bought and sold by applying a discount rate to the expected stream of interest.
